Facing Globalization, natural areas are dealing with the phenomenon of overtourism and overcrowding that increasingly are contaminating unique and fragile natural ecosystems, such as coastal zones.
Legambiente Sicilia, the managing Authority of the Isola di Lampedusa Natural Reserve has been working for years to restore legality and to balance fruition and conservation, to protect one of the last deposition sites of the Caretta-Caretta sea turtle. All this through a careful management and new proposals to split and diversify the usual tourism flow to the Island.
Discussion on volunteering experiences in conservation of the natural habitat and protected species’ projects: Lampedusa case and international experiences.
